Minimum Requirements to Apply for a CDL License Before Being Referred to the ITC:

Resume:

Provide an updated resume showing relevant driving experience.

Experience Requirements:

CDL A: Minimum of 2 years of recent truck driving experience (heavy and/or straight truck).

CDL B: No experience required, but professional driving experience is preferred.

Driver’s License:
-
Candidates must have an unrestricted driver’s license for at least 3 years.

Candidates applying for a CDL A or CDL B license must hold a valid permit.

Driving Record:
-
No suspensions of any kind within the past 3 years, including for scofflaw or non-driving-related infractions.
-
No at-fault accidents within the past 5 years.
-
No more than 4 points reflected on the driving abstract.

Employment Status:
-
Be actively seeking employment or currently employed and earning less than $91,000 per year.

Military Experience:

Military experience driving commercial vehicles may be substituted to meet ITG’s minimum professional experience requirements, where applicable.

Additional Information:

ITG Assessment Sessions:
-
WF1 centers can schedule pre-screened candidates for ITG assessment sessions, held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 AM via WS1.

Candidates unable to attend these sessions may request alternate appointments through ITC staff, similar to the DOL process.

ITG Assessment:

The CDL ITG assessment passing score is 70.

To best prepare for the ITG assessment test, candidates are encouraged to review the Commercial Driver’s Manual (General Knowledge, Safety, and Passenger sections), available at local DMV locations at no cost.
